01-07-2008
IT and high tech industries:
DTU opens a new centre for basic research in nanophotonics, writes the technical newspaper Ingeniøren.
The centre’s name will be Natec (Nanophotonics for Terabit Communications) and the aim is to study nanotechnology in order to bring datacommunication systems to speeds of more than 1,000 gigabit per second and create new forms of dianostic instruments.
According to the press release from DTU nanophotonics is a fast growing scientific line with great perspectives for science and industry. The purpose is to unite five of DTU’s research centres to one powerful centre with a significant international effect.
The new Natec centre receives a budget of almost EUR 7 mio. over the next five years. Willum Kann Rasmussen Fonden has donated half of the amount. The foundation, which supports e.g. technical and natural science is named after the founder, who also established the company Velux.
